There is no way to completely prevent spam emails. While our web filter does catch and block the majority of junk emails sent to CALS employees, some will eventually get through to your inbox. There are ways to lower the risk of spammers finding your work email address.

1. Be careful about who you give your email address to. The more people and websites that have your email address, the more likely it is that a spammer will use that address in the future.

2. Use caution when surfing the internet. Viruses and malware can lead to spam emails.

3. Use secure passwords and change them frequently. This is one reason we require staff to reset passwords every three months.

4. Make use of BCC instead TO: or CC: when sending bulk emails and encourage your contacts to do the same. This will prevent your email address from being visible to other recipients and possible spammers.

If you find that you're receiving a large amount of emails from a specific domain address, open a ticket with IT and provide that information. The domain can be blacklisted in our filter which may help resolve the problem.
